A house that was once used as the original Good Samaritan Hospital? What?
Check out this week’s Friday Find. FF- Good Samaritan Hospital
This incredible property offers a rare opportunity to own a true piece of Los Angeles history.
Located in the historic Angelino Heights neighborhood, this fully restored Stick-Style Victorian home is believed to be the only verified surviving house from the original Bunker Hill neighborhood.
But what exactly was Bunker Hill?
Bunker Hill was once a hillside neighborhood filled with beautiful Victorian homes in what is now Downtown Los Angeles. In the late 1950s, city planners made the controversial decision to redevelop the entire area.
The hill was literally lowered and the neighborhood demolished, clearing the way for modern downtown development.
Many of the historic homes were lost, but a small number were relocated to preserve them, including this remarkable property.
Built in 1883 by architect William R. Horton, the home was even used at one point as the original Good Samaritan Hospital.
As Los Angeles grew, the structure was moved twice to preserve it and now sits proudly in the Angelino Heights Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, one of the city’s most important historic districts.
The property currently functions as a triplex.
The main house features 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and approximately 3,051 square feet of living space, and it is legally configured as a duplex, allowing the top and bottom floors to be separated.
In addition, there is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit located above a 3-car garage, offering flexibility for guests, rental income, or additional living space.
The home has been carefully restored, blending irreplaceable historic features with modern updates.
Architectural details include:
• giant wood windows
• carved mantels
• Douglas fir floors
• decorative fireplaces
• stained glass windows
All thoughtfully paired with modern materials and amenities.
This rare Angelino Heights historic property is offered for $2,750,000.
