A 1917 hunting lodge in Los Angeles? I’m Natalie Novarro with Sotheby’s International Realty and this is my Friday Find. Friday Find- Laurel Canyon

Step into the magic of Laurel Canyon, one of Los Angeles’ most iconic and historic hillside neighborhoods. Built in 1917, this home sits on an enormous double lot just north of the Sunset Strip and offers a rare opportunity to own a true piece of Los Angeles history.

The property features three bedrooms and three bathrooms across approximately 2,154 square feet, along with ample parking for up to ten cars in front of the home, something rarely seen in the canyon.

Inside, the home retains incredible original character, including 100-year-old redwood paneling throughout, original casement windows overlooking the front garden and terrace, and French doors that open to the backyard.

Outside, the property features a large oval pool surrounded by gardens, creating a peaceful canyon retreat. The exterior still showcases the original cedar planks, adding to the rustic lodge-like atmosphere that makes the home feel both historic and cozy.

Laurel Canyon itself has a fascinating history. The neighborhood was originally developed by Charles Spencer Mann in 1910, who created rustic lodges and hunting cabins in what he called “Bungalow Land.” At the time, the area was known as a prime hunting destination, filled with coyotes, deer, rabbits and rattlesnakes.

Visitors traveled to the canyon by a trackless trolley from Sunset Boulevard, which brought guests to the Bungalow Lodge and Tavern — a hunting lodge that eventually burned down in 1929 and was rebuilt as what we now know today as the Laurel Canyon Country Store.

Even more remarkable, despite the home being over 100 years old, it has had only two owners, with the most recent owner purchasing the home back in 1966.

This property is more than just a fixer — it’s a nostalgic Laurel Canyon gem filled with history and potential.

And it can be yours for $2,095,000.
