Friday Find: The Comedy Store “Crash Pad” House Above the Sunset Strip

Video Tour Coming Soon

I’m currently uploading my past Friday Find property tours to YouTube. This video will be added here soon.

This week’s Friday Find takes us just above the Sunset Strip to a home with some very entertaining history. Video for crestview

Located at 8420 Cresthill Road in the Hollywood Hills, this charming Spanish-style home was once owned by Mitzi Shore, the legendary owner of the Comedy Store and mother of comedian Pauly Shore.

Mitzi Shore purchased the Comedy Store in 1976, and the home on Cresthill Road was included as part of the deal.

And here’s where the story gets interesting.

At one time, there was actually a tunnel connecting the Comedy Store to the house.

The tunnel dates back to the Prohibition era in Hollywood, when it was used as a hidden passageway.

Later on, the house became somewhat of a “crash pad” and party house for comedians performing at the Comedy Store.

Over the years, comedians such as Sam Kinison, Andrew Dice Clay, Robin Williams, and Jim Carrey are said to have spent time here.

If the walls could talk…

The home itself was originally built in 1925 and is one of the charming early Spanish-style homes in the Hollywood Hills.

Today the property offers 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and nearly 5,000 square feet of living space.

While the home has been updated over the years, it still retains much of its original architectural character including:

arched doorways
coved ceilings
• classic Spanish architectural details

The property also offers beautiful views stretching from the Griffith Observatory to the Pacific Ocean.

Located just steps from the iconic Sunset Strip, this property represents a unique piece of Hollywood history.

And yes — the tunnel still exists, although the entrance from the Comedy Store side has since been permanently sealed.

This historic Hollywood Hills home is offered for $3,950,000.
