Friday Find: A Rudolph Schindler Architectural Home in the Hollywood Hills

Ever wonder what it’s like to live inside a piece of Los Angeles architectural history?

Check out this week’s Friday Find.

Designed in 1946 by legendary architect Rudolph Schindler, the Kallis-Sharlin Residence is one of the coolest homes currently on the market in the Hollywood Hills.

And extra credit if you remember Schindler from one of my past Friday Finds.

Schindler worked alongside Frank Lloyd Wright before becoming one of the pioneers of California modernism, and this home is a perfect example of his site-driven design philosophy.

Translation?

The house feels like it grows out of the hillside instead of sitting on top of it.

Super cool.

Originally designed for artist and film art director Mischa Kallis, the home has Hollywood history and was later conceived as both a residence and creative workspace.

The house features:

• 4 bedrooms
• 3 bathrooms
• over 3,500 square feet

and dramatic architectural details throughout including:

• walls of glass
• layered terraces
• clerestory lighting
• beautiful mahogany and Douglas fir finishes
• four fireplaces
• swimmer’s pool and jacuzzi
• steam shower
• bocce court

This is one of those rare Los Angeles homes where architecture, history, and lifestyle all come together.

And as always… check out my Friday Finds.
