Located in the prestigious Outpost Estates neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills, this remarkable property is one of the most historic homes in Los Angeles.
The estate was owned for more than 50 years by legendary television host Bob Barker, best known for hosting The Price Is Right. Barker lived here until his passing in August 2023, just shy of his 100th birthday.
But the home’s history goes back even further.
The first structure on this site was built in the 1850s, making it widely considered the first home ever built in the Hollywood Hills.
The original three-room adobe structure sat within a sycamore grove near what is now the intersection of Outpost Drive and Hillside Avenue.
Later, the property was owned by General Harrison Gray Otis, the first publisher of the Los Angeles Times, who named the property “The Outpost” — which is how the neighborhood eventually became known as Outpost Estates.
After Bob Barker’s passing, the estate was sold in 2024 and underwent a thoughtful restoration by designer and buyer Julia Dempster, blending the home’s historic charm with modern luxury.
Today, the home offers 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and approximately 5,900 square feet of living space, situated on more than a quarter-acre lot.
Many of the original architectural details remain intact, including:
• hand-painted ceilings
• arched doorways
• stained glass windows
• and even a hidden bar

Adding to its significance, the estate is officially designated as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 673.
