Rudolph Schindler–Designed Roxy Roth House with Writer’s Studio and Valley Views

A Rudolph Schindler home commissioned by a Hollywood screenwriter — check out my Friday Find.

The Roxy Roth House was designed in 1946 by modernist icon Rudolph Schindler.
If you’re into architecture — or you’ve watched some of my other Friday Finds — you know the name.
Schindler worked under Frank Lloyd Wright, helped bring the Hollyhock House to life, and later designed his own legendary Kings Road House — basically the blueprint for California indoor-outdoor living.

And here’s one of his quieter masterpieces — built for screenwriter and actor Roxy Roth.
Since the 1940s, it’s only had four owners — all creatives — which feels perfectly fitting for this property.

From the street, it’s modest and tucked away at the end of a cul-de-sac…
but inside, the space opens up — bright from three sides, easy flow between rooms, and a huge picture window framing the Valley.

Schindler’s original built-ins and playful touches — including a folding screen that looks from the bedroom into the living room and out to the hills — are all still here.

The home is three bedrooms, three baths, just under 2,000 square feet, and sits on an 8,100-square-foot lot — private, quiet, and surrounded by native landscaping.

One standout feature?
A 400-square-foot writer’s studio, once a carport and later reimagined with clerestory windows, warm light, and a space that makes you want to create.

Step outside and there’s a hillside fire pit with sunset views across the Valley.

A creative home then — a creative home now — and it can be yours for $2,800,000.

3 bedrooms | 3 bathrooms | approx. 2,000 sq ft | 8,100 sq ft lot
